Until July 2017, Murray spent his life living with his mum and brother.

He worked fulltime and had all his household chores done for him.

Finally, his request for Department of Housing came through and he moved a couple of suburbs away to his own unit. Thanks to all the hard work by his brother, some funding by Local Coordination and his support agency, BGSR Pty Ltd, Murray now has complete independence.

With just three hours per day support, Murray keeps his unit clean and tidy, cooks meals, shops and manages his budget. He is up every day on time for work and never misses a support shift. Quite often he has started his routine before the staff arrive each day.

Murray calls his BGSR Coordinator every day just to ‘check in’ and any problems with his tenancy or neighbours can be resolved quickly.

Just goes to show, you may not need a lot of support to achieve your dreams !

WA NDIS – all the facts about the scheme in WA – see attached document for further information

On 2 December 2016 Minister for Disability Services, the Hon Donna Faragher, and Commonwealth Minister for Social Services, the Hon Christian Porter, announced the final stages of negotiation for the roll-out of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in Western Australia based on a locally delivered model.

Since that announcement, good progress has been made between State and Commonwealth officials on the preparation of a final agreement for the full-scheme roll-out across the State. The process to date has been consistent with the steps taken in all other States and Territories.

While the announcement has been well received by the disability sector and the wider community it has raised questions about how the NDIS will be delivered here in Western Australia.

Although the final agreement between the two governments is yet to be signed, the following information explains key elements of the Scheme that are currently being finalised.

A group of our residents recently attended the Crosslinks Ball on Saturday May 28th – held at the Midland town hall.

It was a great night, and everyone arrived in style by stretch Hummer! Thank you to all the staff who helped sew and organise ball gowns and make the night a huge success!
